Today, 12 December 2022, a Cooperation Agreement was signed in Chisinau to enhance the digital skills of the public administration staff, as well as to improve the digital infrastructure and digital capabilities of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, particularly in the context of harnessing new technologies. The document was signed at the plenary session of the Inter-governmental Commission for the Implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Digital Transformation between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, attended by Iurie Turcanu, Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalization of the Republic of Moldova and Sebastian Ioan Burduja, Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitalization of Romania.

The overall objective of this cooperation is to support government efforts to develop the information technology in the public and private sectors of the Republic of Moldova and Romania through better digital infrastructure, modern policies and digital skills. The main goals are: to strengthen the digital infrastructure in the public and private sectors of the Republic of Moldova and Romania; to support the development of the digital society, innovative and resilient digital economy in both countries; to develop a common digital space in order to improve the quality of electronic services and to ensure a secure digital environment for all citizens of the Republic of Moldova and Romania.

During this event, Iurie Turcanu, Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalization of the Republic of Moldova, mentioned: “Over this period, we discussed with the major technology suppliers to have them as our partners and to bring on our common digital agenda the best technical solutions. We are pleased to announce today that a cooperation agreement was signed between the two governments and UiPath. UiPath is a Romanian company producing the best virtual robotics technologies in the world. Process automation is exactly what we need to reduce the costs and speed up the work of public institutions".

At the same time, Sebastian Burduja, Romanian Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, said: “Romania's partnership with the Republic of Moldova on digital transformation projects is taking on a new dimension today. The Memorandum with UiPath paves the way for new collaborations and projects for people. Digital bridges designed by us need builders - reliable partners from the private sector, who can provide the two governments with experience and expertise. I am happy that this initiative is joined by the global leader in automation software UiPath, a company launched in Romania.”

In turn, Mateusz Majewski, Regional Vice President for Eastern Europe at UiPath stressed: "We are happy for the opportunity to contribute our expertise to the initiative of the two countries to set a common vision for the development of the digital economy sector. It is a valuable opportunity to invest in digital skills, both at the level of public administration and at the level of private companies. Moreover, given the accelerated pace of innovation in advanced technologies, the creation of a space for cooperation between the public and private sectors becomes even more important in order to achieve the digital transformation objectives."

Alexandru Mihailciuc, Vice President of Sales Engineering for EMEA at UiPath added:  “We are honoured to join this initiative to support the digital transformation objectives of the Governments of Romania and Moldova. Our experience showed that public administrations often share common goals and face similar challenges in terms of digitalization. Providing a framework to easily share these experiences will provide new opportunities for an innovative and resilient digital economy. Building on common goals, open dialogue and mutual trust, public-private collaboration can thus become a catalyst for sustainable digital transformation."
