On 25 January 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the decision that enables Moldovan citizens living abroad, when applying for passports at the consular offices in their country of residence, to pay for services on the spot, using the electronic payment information system #MPay (in Moldovan lei), as well as to subsequently receive the passport at the specified address, through the governmental delivery service #MDelivery.

At the first stage, the pilot project will be implemented by four diplomatic missions and consular offices of the MFAEI in Romania, Austria, Sweden and Hungary. Subsequently, all diplomatic missions and consular offices of the MFAEI will benefit from this option.

This action is part of the Government of the Republic of Moldova's effort to modernize public services by digitalizing processes, a project implemented by the e-Governance Agency, the Public Services Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova.
